As you know, the Union Protectiva was successful in the lawsuit against the mayor and city. The mayor with councilors Romero Wirth, Castro, Signe Lindell, and Chavez, continue their quest to remove the Soldiers Monument. They are now asking the State Historical Preservation Officer (SHPO) to authorize its removal. We must show the SHPO this monument is used yearly to commemorate the sacrifice New Mexican soldiers made to stop the expansion of slavery in the west by the Confederates. We believe this will demonstrate to SHPO the strong community objection of its removal.
